The template editor has been transformed with one main goal in mind: simplicity and advanced features.

With this template editor you can easily create the desired layout for your contests with virtually no HTML or programming knowledge thanks to the easy to use controls.

The main part to understanding how to use the template editor is getting to know the component toolbar. This component toolbar allows you to add dynamic and static content to your contest template.

Dynamic content is generated from your contest admin settings, custom fields, social configuration, participant's email user, etc.

Below we will explain each of the component buttons group starting from the Participant Messages group.

Participant Messages Tab

The buttons are the following:

Privacy Message : Creates a footer paragraph with a template privacy message that you can use to tell your participants how their information will be used when they signup for your contest. This component has an edit button (pencil icon on the top right corner) that allows to customize this privacy message to your specific needs.

Contest Rules and terms : Creates the necessary HTML elements to generate a the content and links to allow participant to learn more about the rules, terms and any disclaimers of your contest. It also adds a copyright template to enter a year and your company or organization name:

The generated links displays this content on a floating container that can be closed by clicking outside. This makes it really flexible to add your entire rules, terms, etc of your contest.

This content is entered on your contest admin by editing your contest and going into the "Rules & Terms" tab:

The content entered here will be the content displayed on the rules and terms component when the contest is opened on the front-end.

Winner : Inserts the {winner_email_user} template tag that dynamically populates to the contest winner email user when the contest closes. This is used to show who the winner of the contest is. If the winner's email is my_name@email.com it will show the "my_name" part only. This should be use inside the contest statuses containers.

This is only displayed when the contest is in "Show winner" mode. On other modes this is not displayed.

You can click on the red bounding box to append or prepend (or both) any text as needed like:

"Congratulations to {winner_email_user} for winning our contest"

New Lead Message : is used to show a "thank you for joining" message for your participants. It is required to use this component if you want to give this "welcome back" message as this component uses proper class names that only display this message for returning participants only. In all other cases this message will not be displayed.

You can click inside the red bounding box to customize the message according to your contest needs.

Prev Lead Message : is used to show a "welcome back" message to your participants when they return to your contest page. It is required to use this component if you want to display such "welcome back" message as this component uses proper class names that only displays this message for returning participants only. In all other cases this message will not be displayed.

Stats Tab

This tab show components that show participant stats when they return to your contest page. These buttons insert special template tags that dynamically populate this information into your contest template. These components should only be used on the last step of your contest.

Participant Rank : this is used to insert the participant's rank or place in the list. This is calculated counting the number of referred participants this participant has brought to your contest. The more participants join via their unique link, the higher their rank will be.

You can customize the look by clicking the red bounding box.

Participant Points : this is used to display the amount of points a returning participant has earned by the number of referred participants. This is calculated multiplying the amount of signups this participant has referred by a multiplier you can specify on the Contest Automation tab on the Points option.

This point multiplier is located on the contest automation tab:

Participant Views : This gives participant a count of the number of views his or her share link currently has, so they can see how successful they have been in promoting your contest. This is calculated by counting every page load their unique link has received.

Clicking the bounding box allows you to customize it.

 

Time tab

The time tab contains component buttons related to the start and end times of your contest. These buttons are usually used on your contest header, but you can use them anywhere on your contest.

Contest Start : displays the contest start date. This is dynamically populated with your contest start date from your contest admin screen.

Contest End : displays the contest end date. This is dynamically populated with your contest end date from your contest admin screen.

Countdown Timer : shows the remaining time until your contest ends.

Data Tab

This data tab contains components that collect participant information. This information will be recorded on the WP Contest Creator database and (if set) will be sent to your mailing list provider. These components can only be used in the contest "Steps" sections , but cannot be on the last step. The last step is reserved for presenting the confirmation.

For example:

If you have 2 steps to join your contest you can only use "Step 1" to insert one of these data components. Step 2 should be reserved for the "Confirmation" that the participant has joined.

If you have 3 steps to join your contest , you can use "Step 1" and "Step 2" to collect participant data, and "Step 3" should be reserved for the "Confirmation" that the participant has joined.

No more than 1 of these components can be inserted on any given step section. Each Steps collects data from only one of these components at a time.

Lead Form: renders the form with the custom fields you have assigned to your contest.

This form can be customized under the Contest admin under the "Entry Form / Opt-in", click "Edit" and you can configure your custom fields:

You can add as many fields as needed for your contest.

Survey : inserts a single question survey form to collect a quick entry question to test the knowledge your participants have about any subject. This can be used to measure the understanding of the participants joining your contest, to see how qualified your leads are to your business. If used well can be a very effective tool to measure the success of your contest campaign in obtaining your targeted audience.

You can click the top right corner (pencil icon) for additional options.

The question and survey question options can be configured inside your contest admin under "Poll" tab:

 

Media Tab

This tab has components to insert various media controls including: images, videos, HTML / Javascript code or a button. These can be used anywhere in your contest template.

Image : this component inserts an image into your currently selected container. It opens the Wordpress media dialog where you can insert your desired image.

Video : this component inserts the video that was added on your contest admin under the "Video" tab.

Custom Javascript / HTML : this components allows you to insert any custom Javascript or HTML content that will be displayed on your contest front-end. 

A dialog will open so you can paste this code into.

Button : component that inserts a button to move one step forward. This is reserved for advanced users implementing custom step data collection steps.

 

Social Tab

The social tab contains data from the contest admin fields on the "Social" tab. These controls are related to social URLs and sharing controls to allow your participants to share your contest with others with their social accounts, and help you promote your contest.

These controls can be used anywhere in your contest, except the Social Share Links and Share URL  that are reserved for the confirmation page. The confirmation page is the last "Step" of your contest.

Facebook comments question : displays the Facebook comments question that was setup.

This can be found on the social tab.

Facebook comments : displays the Facebook comments code used to render the Facebook comments on your contest page. This allows participants to post their comments about your question.

This is configured on the same social tab as the Facebook comments section.

Social Share Links : Inserts a social share button that allows participants to post their unique share link to the social networks to get more entries to win. This control should only be used on the last step of your contest only .

This displays a share control on the contest front end:

Social Web Links : inserts all the social web links setup on your contest.

These are configured on the social tab under the social profile links.

 

Website URL, Facebook URL, Twitter URL, LinkedIn URL, YouTube URL, Google+ URL:  inserts the URLs specified on your social settings individually rather than collectively from the previous option. The link label can be edited as desired by clicking the red bounding box.

 

Social Likes : inserts a social like button to allow participants like your contest pages. These buttons can be inserted anywhere in your contest page.

On the top right corner (pencil icon) you can select further options.

Social Message Title : inserts a template tag that is dynamically replaced with the text entered on the social tab under the Share Title setting:

Share URL : insert a component that renders a text box with the unique Share URL so participants can copy / paste their unique link anywhere they like. This component should only be used on the last "Step" of your contest.
